A Course In Miracles Book: The Call To The Unlimited

January 28, 2012

NEW ACIM Book: “The Call To The Unlimited – 2012 Essays For The Salvation Of The world” is available at Amazon.com

These essays with their manifold topics are all part of the greater conversion in His Mind, the Mind of Jesus Christ, looking at the singular meaning given by the awakened Mind in relation to ideas raised in the science communities, religious establishments, philosophical discussion forums, addiction related recovery groups, health and wellness propagating organizations, esoteric circles, “end-scenario” prophets and “Course in Miracles” study and discussion groups. All of them have in common that they show interest for a real solution to the problem of the human condition in separation with its true Source. Most of them are interested in a change of mind and a possible or necessary experience beyond postulated concepts, an Experience of oneness of Mind, God. ~ Devavan

A Course in Miracles: The Book for Our Time

September 21, 2009

This is a great article writtern by Andrea Chalupa from the Huffington Post. The article Andrea mentions from the New York Times caused quite a stir when Carrie Bradshaw quoted Marianne Williamson as the author of a Course In Miracles. Anyone who knows A Course In Miracles knows that the author is Jesus Christ. Consequently the correction was made fairly swiftly.

A Course in Miracles: The Book for Our Time

The New York Times Styles section had this great article on the growing hunger for spirituality as the new obsession for New York’s Carrie Bradshaw. Sure, the pop culture reference is fun, but spirituality is a lot more than visualizing your perfect husband or landing an article in the Style’s section. It’s seeing love–God–in all situations, in yourself, in everyone you meet, something that takes serious practice, study, and dedication–especially in this city.

The best thing about this growing movement–yes, I’ve seen my friends replace retail therapy with meditation–is that it’s introducing more and more people to A Course in Miracles (ACIM). Marianne Williamson and Eckhart Tolle, spiritual advisors on Oprah, derive their books and teachings from this life-changing course.

As someone who studies the written word, I’ve never seen writing like ACIM, and I studied psychology and intellectual history in college. The best way to describe it is thought-level writing. This is not a book written by man, “written down” yes…

In New York in the 1970s, Helen Schucman and William Thetford, Professors of Medical Psychology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, hated each other. Think of your most annoying co-worker drama–theirs was like that. After a particularly bad fight, Schucman thought: there must be a better way. And that’s when the voice came to her, saying simply: This is a course in miracles. Please take notes.

She had a series of vivid dreams leading up to hearing the voice. And she knew she had to work with her colleague and make peace with him. She did, and at first they kept it secret as they worked as scribes for The Voice, afraid their colleagues in academia would be appalled. Over the years they produced the door-stopper sized text, which is Jesus Christ clarifying his original teachings, which, as we know, have been lost and twisted from their original meaning for many.

Though it’s a huge book, which I like to use as my magic eight ball of answers, ACIM has a simple message it gently teaches in a coaching, loving Voice, in the Voice of Christ: you have two choices when it comes to your freedom of choice–fear and love. That’s it–that’s what every “problem” in the world boils down to. And fear cannot exist since it is not a part of God, because anything outside of God is death. Then you simply have one choice–and that is love. Love is life and peace, and a mind at peace communicates with God. Communication with God is life, creativity, limitless power. Anything that makes you feel small, jealous, angry, guilty, vengeful springs from fear, products of the ego that just want to destroy you. That is the only temptation, to resist attack in all its many forms. Because when you attack, you’re attacking yourself and cutting off communication with God.

When people ask, how can there be a God when there’s so much pain and suffering in the world, God didn’t create that, we did. But the current darkness is falling away like eroded cliffs under the deluge of spiritual hunger. And this is one trend that will win out.

A Rare Interview with Jesus Christ Himself In A Course In Miracles

August 20, 2009

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ personally instructs his followers and answers questions about healing.

(Lake Delton, WI August 17, 2009) – In a private miracle healing session held today in Wisconsin Dells, WI, illuminate Course In Miracles teacher, Clare Lamanna opened the meeting by entering into a silent dialogue with Jesus Christ.

Jesus reiterated his admonition to miracle workers to remain completely unconcerned about their abilities, and maintain a consistent trust in his. He recommended a re-reading by every Christian, of his answer in the Manual for Teachers of A Course In Miracles to the question, “Does Jesus have a special place in healing?”

Jesus Christ answers as follows: “God’s gifts can rarely be received directly. Even the most advanced of God’s teachers will give way to temptation in this world. Would it be fair if their pupils were denied healing because of this? The Bible says, “Ask in the Name of Jesus Christ.” Is this merely an appeal to magic? A name does not heal, nor does an invocation call forth any special power. What does it mean to call on Jesus Christ? What does calling on his Name confer? Why is the appeal to him part of healing?”

“We have repeatedly said that one who has perfectly accepted the Atonement for himself can heal the world. Indeed, he has already done so. Temptation may recur to others, but never to this One. He has become the risen Son of God. He has overcome death because he has accepted Life. He has recognized himself as God created him, and in so doing he has recognized all living things as part of him. There is now no limit on his power, because it is the Power of God. So has his name become the Name of God, for he no longer sees himself as separate from Him.”

“What does this mean for you? It means that in remembering Jesus you are remembering God. The whole relationship of the Son to the Father lies in him. His part in the Sonship is also yours, and his completed learning guarantees your own success. Is he still available for help? What did he say about this? Remember his promises, and ask yourself honestly whether it is likely that he will fail to keep them. Can God fail His Son? And can one who is one with God be unlike Him? Who transcends the body has transcended limitation. Would the greatest teacher be unavailable to those who follow him?”

“The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol. But it stands for love that is not of this world. It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray. It becomes the shining symbol for the Word of God, so close to what it stands for that the little space between the two is lost, the moment that the Name is called to mind. Remembering the Name of Jesus Christ is to give thanks for all the gifts that God has given you. And gratitude to God becomes the way in which He is remembered, for love cannot be far behind a grateful heart and thankful mind. God enters easily, for these are the true conditions for your homecoming.”

“Jesus has led the way. Why would you not be grateful to him? He has asked for love, but only that he might give it to you. You do not love yourself. But in his eyes your loveliness is so complete and flawless that he sees in it an image of his Father. You become the symbol of his Father here on earth. To you he looks for hope, because in you he sees no limit and no stain to mar your beautiful perfection. In his eyes Christ’s vision shines in perfect constancy. He has remained with you. Would you not learn the lesson of salvation through his learning? Why would you choose to start again, when he has made the journey for you?”

“No one on earth can grasp what Heaven is, or what its one Creator really means. Yet we have witnesses. It is to them that wisdom should appeal. There have been those whose learning far exceeds what we can learn. Nor would we teach the limitations we have laid on us. No one who has become a true and dedicated teacher of God forgets his brothers. Yet what he can offer them is limited by what he learns himself. Then turn to one who laid all limits by, and went beyond the farthest reach of learning. He will take you with him, for he did not go alone. And you were with him then, as you are now.”

“This course has come from him because his words have reached you in a language you can love and understand. Are other teachers possible, to lead the way to those who speak in different tongues and appeal to different symbols? Certainly there are. Would God leave anyone without a very present help in time of trouble; a savior who can symbolize Himself? Yet do we need a many-faceted curriculum, not because of content differences, but because symbols must shift and change to suit the need. Jesus has come to answer yours. In him you find God’s Answer. Do you, then, teach with him, for he is with you; he is always here.”

Star Trek and A Course In Miracles

June 16, 2009

star-trek
Gene Roddenberry first conceived of the idea of STAR TREK in 1960, and the first episode was aired at 8:30 p.m. EST, on Thursday, September 8, 1966. The initial impact was not impressive. TV Guide said, “the sky’s not the limit on this ‘Trek’,” and Variety said the series “won’t work.” Because of a write-incampaign spearheaded by science fiction writers and tenacity of loyal fans, the series lasted three seasons.

From the first episode, STAR TREK was unique and one of the earliest dramas that presented the idea of form being illusion. In The Cage, the Enterprise crew kept blasting away at a large rock formation and could not see the damage they were doing. It remained solidly intact to their vision when, in actuality, it was destroyed. Captain Pike was tortured by illusions of past horrors made to see real. Even Vina, his love interest, was seen as beautiful to him, although she was actually old and misshapen. The inhabitants on Talos IV were able to project illusions and make them real to anyone they chose to influence. NBC said The Cage was “too cerebral” for the average person to understand.

Throughout the remaining 79 episodes, this illusion versus reality theme was repeated many times. In The Man Trap, a creature who lived on salt could “become” anyone it chose and therefore, masqueraded as various crew members in order to obtain salt. In Shore Leave, whatever one was thinking while on a specific Earth-like planet, was manifested as “real.” It was an entertaining example of how our thoughts become our life situation. Of course, on the show, this place was explained away as an “amusement park,” where one could “create his own pleasure” for recreation. It still changed our perception of reality forever. Another example is Spectre of the Gun, in which the gunfight at the OK Corral is re-enacted through the projections the Malkots are able to obtain from Kirk’s memory. The key to winning was to recognize and reject the illusion.

STAR TREK was enormously instrumental in preparing mankind for future concepts (like those we recently saw on The Secret) that would have seemed too far-fetched had we not been conditioned first. Meanwhile, as this series was subtly reshaping the masses’ concept of reality and illusion, another avenue toward the same destination was being paved. When humanity is ready for a quantum leap in consciousness, prophets come in all shapes and sized to various groups.

In the mid-sixties, Helen Schucman, a Jewish conservative Professor of Psychology at Columbia University in New York, was having highly symbolic and disturbing dreams which she discussed with her colleague, William Thetford. He advised her to write notes concerning the dreams, and she was quite surprised to find herself writing, “This is a Course in Miracles,” while perceiving a form of “dictation” from an inaudible voice. Although this was completely out of character for her, she felt destined to write this work, which is overwhelmingly Christian. As each section of the book unfolded, it was typed by William Thetford and kept completely intact. No changes were made.

First published finally in 1976, the Course teaches basically that anything that is “real” cannot be destroyed or threatened, and that nothing “unreal” actually exists. Therefore, our bodies, our lives, even the Earth, itself, are illusions based on our own personal and collective expectations and projections.

Like STAR TREK, this was new stuff—a bit hard to accept and maybe “too cerebral” to understand. The Course teaches us how to cope with our illusions, but more importantly, it brings new meaning to the biblical exhortation, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” It helps shed light on the miraculous events in Christ’s life and how we can do much greater things than he did (and remember Christ, Himself, said that). It identifies Jesus as our brother who recognized the illusion, awoke from it, and was set free. It says that we are “asleep” and “dreaming,” lost in our own created fantasy, much as we “create” our nocturnal dreams. When we realize this, or “know the truth,” we will awaken to who we really are, and be set free from these projected images.
